El Dorado 2 Race Reports

#2 Post by shredder » Mon Oct 08, 2012 6:23 pm

Thanks to all who helped set this up. Wow! Dan and crew were up all night with bull dozers, tractors and graders and completely transforming that rugged brutal insane loop into a great fast flowing loop that really rocked! Some of those big rock blasters from day one I used as ramps on day two! Very cool. I really enjoyed ripping it up on day 2! The sun was out and the soil tacked up and wow, what a day.

By the way Tucker is just an animal on that Husky aint he? Dang. I sure enjoy watching him go at it.

Destiny Slawson squeaked out Joe and I guess they battled back and forth all day... Man win or loose being in a tight battle is like living in a larger than life movie - for real! Those juniors are really going at it!

To WireFryer, (Mr. Tim) is there anyway we can leave in the part from your Go-Pro when I pass you and edit out the part where I'm cussin and kicking my electric start bike at the bottom of that hill when you re-take your position back? I guess I was hanging on so tight that I squeezed the start button constantly and it STUCK inside the housing! The battery was dead. I've never kicked started it and never after I flooded it by dropping it down that hill...Can't we just call triple A and get a jump start in the woods or something? Can we have the girls bring out drinks while we wait? Just a suggestion.

I wanted to thank the guys at all the hill climbs that helped us out. You guys were not loafing at all. There was always someone needing help and you guys were there. I am sorry for almost taking out two of you heroes on the long dirt rocky up hill. I hit it HARD and got a bad bounce and my toe hit third as I whiskey throttled it and at one point headed right for a dude dressed in yellow racing jersey. Man you guys moved outta my way FAST! Thanks man! I landed it and somehow (pure luck) got it back on the path and it looked like I might have skillfully handled the situation...But anyone who knows me knows that it was really dumb luck.

First off, a very different location for us. I really liked the atmosphere and the layout of the place, and the spectator accsess was outstanding.

FlipStick was kind enough to offer me a bunk for the weekend, so we feasted like Kings , and found out that the PaterFamilia' of TeamBrawner..., is a sucker for broiled shrimp  .

Saturdays' round kicked my a$$, without putting too fine a shine to it.

Ran the first practice and regretted it almost immediately.

3 hours of chilly temps will cramp you up something fierce.

Flip and Colby come in after the fast-mover show and basicly describe the course in ways that all end.... with the rocks getting bigger.

My XC-F has realized it has a kickstarter and would like it to be used once and awhile.

The spin-button hoses me for the last time...

Things I see'd...

#917 had a motor that put out a fog of ......Something :?: , it didn't smell like coolant, tranny oil, axle grease, his Moms old panties, ect.

But this guy killed every mosquito in the County with the fog coming out of his silencer, I hear the Engine went bang before the hour mark.

I'm beat to snot.... but am also laid-off this week.

I'll post the Sunday observations tommorrow....

Saturday was a blast! This has to be the funnest area I have had a chance to ride. Sunday morning was a different story.... EVERYTHING HURT. Who is the joker that went out saturday night and streched out the rock gardens? I'll swear they grew by 100 yrds in each direction.

If anyone found my butt please bring it to the scoring trailer and I'll pick it up at the next race. I think it's in one of the rock gardens, not sure...my wrists hurt so bad on saturday I didn't realize it was gone till I got home and my wife wanted to know where I lost my ass!

OK, I finally got some strength back in my arms to type with  .

Day 2 was a much better deal all around with the sun shining, birds chirping, and about 2000 milligrams of ibruprofen floating about in my bloodstream.

Most of us got smart and just warmed up on the first mile on the course over and over  .

Decided to run my kicker this time and got a decent start for a change. The course flowed MUCH better going this direction, reminded me very much of Chadwick before the quads got ahold of the place. Irregardless, my hands howl in protest before mile 3 and I realize it's gonna' be "one of those days".

Just into lap two I ride up on Bill Thomas and the remains of SloMoJoe. Joe is curled up in a ball at the base of a large oak tree he tried to cut down using only his body  . (Pssst, hey Joe, they make chainsaws for that sorta thing, hehehe).

I stop to help, Joe is making funny noises and speaking some kind of foreign language. We get him to his feet and realize he's okay when he starts talking nonstop  .

Bill and I take off and play cat and mouse for the next two laps. We zip by Shredder, who is proving to be an Angel of Death to his motorcycles over the weekend. Bill absolutely, positively has to beat me to stay in the top ten in points and he gets his wish when I just hit the wall.... and stick to it.

The 4 hour drive home was made far less dull running convoy with WolfyMan and El Dog dodging all the bad drivers, drunk KC Chiefs fans, and blind old ladies leaving the casino  .

Big thanks to the nice folks at Camp Galillee, Dan and crew for a very well marked layout both days, and all the spectator help on the uphills.

Whoop!

Can only offer a few comments this evening but so many great memories we made. We unofficially worked some of the hills and trails since there was the split race format. It's neat to see people you know improving their skills on some pretty gnarly trail. I was the guy in the bright yellow safety jacket on the last hill yelling at you all. Good job gang!! No one ran me over!!!

What a great place. What great hosts for us all. Excellent dinner saturday night. Classic church camp. My racer/daughter found the cross at the lake and reminded us all why we are here. Good job kid. Classic weekend. She was the one on Saturday's trophies and signed many of them. Really nice touch Dan J. You are one of a kind.

Raced four of us, in our cozy cabin #4, Jared 411, Lauren 811 and Jeremy 244, all of us enjoyed great trail, had our challenges and enjoyed good times spent with friends. Did I mention "the" Mr. Terry Gilliland showed up? Great to see you my friend.

Tough track. Well earned trophies. Good times. Lasting memories.

Wish more of you fellow FMHSC brothers would have showed. I hope you can make it next time if we get to race there again. It was an "epic" event, in my opinion.
