OffRoadCup

#1 Post by jstr244 » Wed Mar 27, 2013 12:12 pm

Anyone else going to this event? I saw a few FMHSC teams on the list for this Saturday. Hopefully conditions hold up and we're able to get out there and race!

Here is an update on the conditions from Monday:

"The course for this years’ Off Road Cup is 9.2 miles long. It is a mix of established trailand some fresh cut stuff through “typical” Missouri woods. As far as the terrain, the locals refer to it as “gritty” or “gravely” – meaning it is dirt mixed with small rocks. There are some bigger planted-in-the-ground rocks, but mostlythey’re smaller than fist sized. There are some areas that are less rocky that are moreclay-like and then there are sections that are more rocky that have very little dirt showing.Obviously, the more dirt-like sections are more prone to rutting while the rocky stuff will not change much as the race progresses. Is it tight or wide-open? It is in between. A utility ATV has been around the entire courseso that should give you an idea of the width. In places where it was one-lined or weexpected the ground to be soft, we have opened up the trail even more so that there willopportunities to venture out of the main line. We are guessing at a 21 – 22 mph speed average for the Pro riders – but that is totally a guess. Possibly 25 minutes or so per lap for the fast guys.

One week prior to the race, the course was in great shape. It did snow the next day, so there will no doubt be spots that get more challenging. There will also be sections that get more burnt in and get faster. The race is 9 hours and any track that gets ridden on for 9 hours is going to change. This one will, too. Some warmer temperatures – some wind –some sun – and the course will do nothing but get better."

We are going but Collin's team has fallen apart. He may be racing by himself. The weather update looks like rain for Sat. Could be a long day.

30F and snow/sleet/rain is one thing...

63F and rain, on the other hand, is the recipe for epic. Not getting too hot, not freezing, bike washes itself, what more could you ask for?

An ATV wide sized course............. Could go any way... Dry and fast as all get out or rain and a mud pit. Gotta love the midwest lol.

Pretty woods and good dirt at Eldon. Should be fun to see how the event works.

Forecast looks better all the time. Chance of rain small until afternoon. Best chance after 3, but then only 50%.
