Does anyone else wear a heart rate monitor?
I've had my heart rate monitor for a long time, but I've never wore it for hare scrambles....until Saturday for Adrian 1. I hit the start button on my watch as the start board turned sideways. I meant to hit "lap" each time I came through scoring so I could track when my heart rate was the highest, but that was the last thing on my mind. I was surprised by the results.

Please do - tell!
I've been wondering about just that issue EXACTLY!
Please enlighten me! Things like typical rates getting lower as the race year goes by, heat has how much effect, notice an average on any race, etc?

I had mine on at Walters this year. Wearing a polar ft4. I turned mine on well before the race and forgot to turn it off for about 10 mins after the finish. I'm sure my race only numbers would be slightly higher. I can lock the buttons out on mine which helps keep the watch from turning off accidentally. I don't like to visit the 190 mark too often.
42 y/o
Duration 2:40
Calories 2316
Average HR 147
Max HR 189
25 minutes in the zone - which for me is like 119-150ish I think??

I'm going to try and remember to wear mine for the rest of the races this season and keep track of the results.

It might be sobering to see some of the faster guys numbers when compared to mine. I'm usually working twice as hard as they are while going slower!?!ktmracer66 wrote:I'm going to try and remember to wear mine for the rest of the races this season and keep track of the results.
I think they have a lot of training value. It helps me put a number on how I'm feeling at the time. I use mine a lot for interval training. It really helps to see your recovery time and when you need to pick up the pace again. I've never used one till I got mine for Christmas. Now I use it almost every workout.

I wore one almost every race last year. My numbers looked exactly like yours every time, except I was sick the week of Drexel and it was higher that race.

Re: Does anyone else wear a heart rate monitor?
I've worn one at a couple races.
The highest BPM I saw was around 205, If I remember correctly closer to 210
Calories burned was a little over 2400.
It's fun looking at the numbers and seeing where you can improve.
They are very good training tools, well worth it in my opinion.

found this old article. Funny people think just because bikes have a throttle there is no work involved.
