NEW MOTO X TRACK TOPEKA

#1 Post by Ride Orange 214 » Thu Apr 14, 2016 9:39 am

I know most of you don't like getting your bikes out of second gear and want your wheels on the ground with Mud and Rocks. BUT for those that want some nice Black Loam Dirt and some sweet 343 built jumps. HPT Topeka is building a new Moto track.

Heartland Park Topeka officials announced Wednesday evening that construction has begun on a new, state-of-the-art motocross facility on the northwest corner of the facility’s property.

Dirt work began April 12 and construction of the basic track layout is expected to take 10 to 15 days to complete.

“We are very excited to add another motorsports element and race track to this great facility,” said Scott Gardner, president of Heartland Park. “Motocross is very popular, both from a racer and spectator standpoint. It’s a great family sport and having a brand new motocross race track here at the new Heartland Park Topeka will bring even more racers, spectators and enthusiasts to Topeka.”

The motocross track was designed and is being constructed by Tracy Freeman of MX343 LLC Track Building of Osawatomie.

“The track itself will be fun for all skill levels and have a wide variety of obstacles like tabletops jumps, doubles, whoops, scrubs and much more,” Freeman said. “Supporting the track will be plenty of parking, bathrooms, camping and full concessions.

“Motocross is a great spectator sport and this track design will be spectator friendly with some great vantage points. We plan on filling the stands with motocross fans and all motor sport enthusiasts alike.”

A full AMA-approved, 42-rider starting gate will be installed and a schedule for practice and race dates are in the works.

The summer of 2016 schedule will be introductory and a full race schedule will be planned for 2017. Racers and fans are asked to watch the Heartland Park Topeka website and Facebook page for more detailed information and schedules as they are developed.

Another MX track. Come on, what the Kansas boys really need is a pro enduro cross. That way they can get plenty of practice riding the gnarly stuff. Hopefully stop complaining about how ruff and tuff Missouri is.

That would be awsome a two hour enduro cross or four separate 30min. races.

Always glad to see a new venue for off-road riding open up whether it is MX, off-road, trials, endurocross whatever.

Years ago my son used to do some MX racing, at that time it was the only racing open to those younger than 12, pee wee racing at hare scrambles was pretty much unheard of in the 90's. I have many good memories of my son and I riding Kingsville and the track at Finger Lakes State Park. While I myself have never raced MX, I feel the practice riding I did was a good sort of cross-training, it was fun to ride, and time on the bike is time on the bike.

Good luck with the new track.

I live just a few miles from Heartland Park and have been driving by there frequently to see the progress. It looks like a big track. I'll go watch for sure just to support it. Maybe if they have a 59+ Barkbuster class I'll enter just so I can roll the jumps. I'd really like to see some bikes on the flat-track at HP and Thunderhill. That'd be the deal. OK, back to your regular Hare Scramble programming........

Does anybody remember about 15 years ago when Heartland Park made a half vintage mx track and a half flat track? You started in the infield and got into turn one/two, ripped up thru the gears and vaulted straight out of turn three and into a man made vintage track. You never saw a vintage bike go that far in the air. After you landed we had to go thru a vintage track and enter back onto the flat track from turn four. After turn four you had to maneuver thru some stuff in the infield and then back onto the start of lap 2. What a hoot. Mighty Maico horsepower reigned supreme on this track. After we got done with it, They let the trophy trucks on it.
