Does it mean anything special for the race-type though?

The Hillbilly series designates their races as "GP" races and they used to run their format a little different than our typical 2-hr harescramble. They have done 2-45 minute "motos" in the past.

Is the plan for Drexel to be different like this, or our typical straight 2-hr race?

Mostly the answer is no it doesn't stand for anything and it's just a two hour hare scramble. However. Perry Keegan started this and I'm sure he will add his thoughts, but it was intended to go through downtown Drexel and that led to that name because of other sporting events that used to do the same.

"An important sporting event in which participants compete for a major prize."

…………… well, yes Dan is right. It really doesn’t have an applicable meaning…. The Drexel race is a 2 hr. FMHSC regular event (split race). Last year Chuck Martin opened with the “GP” style start (run to you bike and go) which was a big hit, but it really started out over six years ago. I had this great idea after watching “On Any Sunday” for the 5000th time. I thought the City of Drexel, MO always had a reputation of being very proud of its town and traditions and would be a great candidate for a “Elsinore” style off-road motorcycle race…..

The original thought was to have the race start on Main street and head out of town to the surrounding properties……….the rail road said “HELL NO” and the MO State Police said “sorry no way”…..but with some creative thinking from the residents, help from some local enthusiasts and new found friends the “Independence Day Race in the Park” was started.

This is a one of a kind event that needs to continue as long as possible! Cool stuff like this doesn’t happen near as often as it should.

Please try and attend this event (it's a great race for a first timer) if you can and please let the citizens of Drexel, the Drexel Lions Club, the Mayor and city officials know how much we appreciate them letting us share AMERICA’s birthday with them!!!

2014 will be the 6th Year!

Super Big Thanks to Chuck Martin and his crew for stepping up again and making this event happen! Drexel is lucky to have him.
