Orrick Race Report - A sweeper's view

Shout out to Jason's& Dan's gang for setting up a challenging course. There was something for everyone to love and then grit teeth all at the same time. Appreciate all your efforts for fun day; the playground a cool place to race & ride

on to the 700 report via sweepers view...

After a quick practice lap, I was thinking I made a good choice sweeping both races. It was hotter than 10000 suns with very little air moving. I was enjoying my sweep decision until the racing started. With high temps and a challenging track like this, sweeping should be worth 44 points :-). The first race wasn't too bad until I ran across Mat Bailey who broke his leg on a tree. Don't know if any of you have broken a tib or fib but speaking from experience, I know its the worst pain ever. I radioed for help and hung with him until help arrived making sure he kept hydrated and alert. It was on a downhill slope and extraction was tough to even find us. I know that 4-wheeler ride back had to be excruciating. Hope you're doing alright Mat, I feel for ya brother. The rest of the first race was ok but was getting hotter.

Race 2 was cluster. The first downhill & up hill kids were everywhere; stuck in trees, stuck on rocks, in mud, you name it. Shane, Matt and the other sweepers busted our behinds getting people back on course. Then I ran across Travis on the green Kawasaki. It was his first race and he wasn't feeling so good. I hung with him and made him drink tons of water. He was almost unresponsive at times. Finally got him back on the bike to get him some air moving but he was done. I helped him to a 4-wheeler that took him back to get some air conditioning then wheeled his bike off course which made me want to join him :-)

It was a busy day sweeping I was completely whipped by the end of race 2. I'll try to add a few more stories to this but gotta run for now.
