Big springs riding area question (or KC/Topeka area)

I moved to the KC area 6 months ago and work in Topeka so Oakland has been my after work riding area of choice purely due to it being on my way home. The place really sucks and I'd like to find somewhere with decent single track that can be my new after work riding spot. I've heard a lot about big springs but wasn't sure if it was open all the time or how it all worked. I'd be happy to pay dues or an entry fee but would love to check the place out if it fits this type of criteria.
If it's only open on the weekends or for races, does anyone know of any other spots in/around Topeka or between Topeka and KC?
