CAMP GALILEE - EL DORADO SPRINGS, MO - APRIL 14&15

It’s almost here! Round one of the 2012 Midwest Off Road Events race season!! We have a busy, action-packed weekend planned to kick-off our second year of off-road racing!!

El Dorado Cycle is only a mile or so from the race site and is the presenting sponsor of the season opener. A big “THANK YOU” goes out to Randy Lusk and his crew for supporting the series and the sport. The shop is open on Saturday so be sure to stop by for any of your race weekend necessities.

First off – the site: Camp Galilee in El Dorado Springs. We were here for round six in 2011 and the staff welcomed us with open arms for the first ever motor-sports event held on the property. They immediately wanted to know when we would be coming back. So, we are excited to “be back”, this time for the series opener.

Next up – the activities: We will be running a standard MORE weekend schedule (check the website for full details) starting with Saturday practice (11 a.m.) on both the big track and the Pee Wee track, followed by the Sportsman race, and then the Pee Wee events.

Saturday evening we will be having the 2011 Awards Banquet in the dining hall at Camp Galilee…just a quick walk from the scoring trailer. Whether you raced with us last year or not, everyone is invited to join in on the food and festivities (please pre-register for this so that we ensure we have enough food). A link to the invitation can be found on the Home Page.

Sunday practice starts at 8:00 followed by the Short Course and Long Course races.

The track: We have been working on the course and adding in some new trail that flows really good. We’ve got two new fairly long sections – one is long course only and the other is for both long and short courses – and they each are probably a half mile long. Then we have another half dozen shorter sections to link things together differently than last time. Also different will be the course direction – we will be running in reverse from 2011 so it will be new and fresh for everyone.

In 2011 we ran a lot of creek sections and this time we have cut ways around those sections in case we have wet weather. So we have some options if needed and we will decide on race weekend which stuff we are going to run. The good news is that we can get around virtually ALL of the creek sections if we need to.

As far as terrain goes, the course is rocky on the hill sides and an amazing mix of dirt and sand in the bottoms and on top of the hills. It basically goes back and forth between the terrains – a couple of minutes in the dirt, then a little in the rocks, then back to the dirt. It is a really good and fun “mix”.

Long course is approximately 6.7 miles. Short course is approximately 6.0 miles.

The Pee Wee track is also going to run in the opposite direction from 2011. The course has some rocks, some great dirt, runs above and below the water slide, through the wood chip pile, along the creek, and has a fun grass track section. The 50’s will NOT run one section of the trail (the part with the downhill and uphill right by camp). The 65/85 track is approximately 1.5 miles.

The big track and Pee Wee track will share a small section of trail, just prior to and just after, the scoring lane. So in practice, be aware of this, use some patience, and help a kid if they need it. Kids – you help the big guys, too!

This year we will be staging the event on the top of the hill…..which means….a paved drive all the way into the property and gravel parking spots once you’re there. The scoring / sign-up / awards / concessions area will be to your left as you drive up the paved road. There is a big pavilion with cabins surrounding it. That’s where all of the action takes place and where you can enter the track for practice.

Also – Camp Galilee has cabins for rental at the race site, as well as shower houses to take advantage of. You can rent a cabin and literally walk to the start line. There is also a sand volleyball court, basketball court, and lots of other “stuff” to do. In addition to the cabins, there are also RV hook-ups available. Talk about convenient! Contact the camp for details at 417-876-3024.

We will NOT be racing on the pavement this year so feel free to ride up and down the pavement to get to and from the track entrance. Like always, just be careful. 10 mph maximum speed when you are not on the track.

Transponders: MORE will again be using the new style “sticker” transponder so if you have one from another of the local series (FMHSC, MHSC, HBGP) you will be good to go as we are all now using the same style. If you don’t have one, you can purchase one at sign-up for $10.

Numbers: If you don’t have the correct numbers/backgrounds for your bike, no worries. We have everything you need at sign-up. They are $3 for a set of three.

Holeshot awards will once again be presented by Silkolene Lubricants! It also sounds like we will have some Dunlop Tires to give away.

Camp Galilee has a no alcohol policy. Thanks for your cooperation.

LET'S DO THIS!!
